Pilates is a low-intensity muscle strengthening exercise technique that is designed to build a toned body with a strong core by rebalancing weak and overactive muscles, increasing flexibility and building awareness.

Pilates can be taught on a mat or with the Pilates equipment. Joseph Pilates designed his resistance equipment like the Reformer, Wall unit, Wunda chair, Trapeze Table, Ladder barrel and more in the 1920s after working as a nurse and realising that working with resistance was making his patients stronger quicker.
